(ooc: It's a random thread to break into my character! Enter if you want, for I haven't got a plan, just a desire to introduce Rii to people.)
A pretty blue sky, a field so green, and water so cool and clean. Rii had just visited a place where wild horned beasts twice her height leapt from cliff edge to cliff edge chasing after their meals, knocking people out of the way and forcing many to hide in the mysterious caves that dotted the cliff face so that they weren't sent plummeting down into a dark river full of plants that released thousands of poisonous spores in the spring time... and this is what her home had to offer her. If you survived the fall into the river in the other land, you not only had several broken bones, but also an infection given by the plants, and that required a lot of Hylian Plated Snake venom mixed with a couple of other crushed herbs. Oh sure, there were plenty of herbs in the odd land she had visited, but Hylian Plated Snake venom? Found in one place only, and that would be Hyrule, which is why Rii wasn't unhappy with the familiarity of it all.
Now that she had been back a total of... three hours and had rested her webbed feet in the cool water that was found in Hyrule Field, the Zora stood. Her supply of the snake in question's venom was rather low, something she decided she might as well fix. "Venomous. Not lethal, but can destroy one's eyesight if given six drops, or if bitten. Good for ear and lung infections if dilluted with the correct herbs..."
The female Zora pulled out her staff. She swore she heard something. Grass moving out of the way for something? Maybe the snake? Rii glanced around, searching for a flash of what might appear to be coppery rope, as that was what the snake looked like if one wasn't looking closely. But she was disappointed. Only a bird, and not even one of the rare ones whose bones could be used if ground into a fine powder. Rii kept walking through the field, head lazily rolling from one side to the other as she scanned for the animal.

Maximus came racing out from behind the bird, he had been chasing it for hours. He smiled and laughed as the bird flew off, he decided he should let it be for now. "Goodbyeee!" He yelled after it, waving frantically. Max deeply inhaled the fresh air and said, "Ahh, now to relax." He fell backward into the soft emerald grass closing his eyes on the way down. The boy exhaled after he hit the ground. When he opened his eyes he noticed the Zora woman in his peripherals. He propped himself up on his arms and looked over at her. A very delighted smile appeared on his face. He loved making new friends. The young assassin cocked his head to the side and greeted her, "Hello, I'm Maximus. What's your name?"

Rii stopped her searching when she heard a voice behind her. The young boy was saying good-bye to the bird she had spotted. Perhaps it had been a little rude of her to not greet the bird. She was often so bad about greetings. She glanced over at the little boy, not for a moment trying to figure out just how much older she was than the boy she was about to converse with. "Rii," she answered with a wide smile, dropping to her knees to inspect the grass more closely, hoping to catch a glimpse of even a small Hylian Plated Snake. "Wouldn't it be nice if a snake would greet me with its name? Then I could call for them by name when I needed more venom. Have you seen any snakes, Maximus?" Rii probed into a taller section of grass with her staff, gently tapping the ground in search of a snake, or in hopes of provoking one out of its hiding place.
No such luck. She might have to make a lure, which would be nice. She was still rather unfamiliar with the whole process. Yep, that'd be nice, and those materials were much easier to find. She probably even had some. Maybe the young boy could be of assistance. She normally didn't ask for any, but there was no way he could be any worse of assistance than all the guards that insisted on helping her back at the Zora Domain.

Maximus thought for a long moment before responding. He thought long about his adventure with the bird and if he had come across any snakes. Suddenly he remembered a tiny snake hole he found just before he found the bird. "Oh! I didn't actually see the snake but I think I might know where he lives?" The young boy propelled himself to his feet and grabbed Rii's hand. "Follow me!" Max began dragging the Zora woman across the field until he finally stooped at a small hole in the ground. He knelt beside it and pointed towards the opening, "Could a snake live in there?"

The boy seemed deep in thought before suddenly saying that he might know where a snake lived. Then, with great enthusiasm he grabbed her hand, informing her to follow him. Laughing, she followed him, amused by the boy's energetic approach to her issue. She wasn't sure how he remembered where the snake hole was, but she was thankful for the hope all the same as they approached the possible home for the reptile. "That's amazing! I'll check for a snake, okay?" Rii offered, hoping the hole didn't go too far into the earth, otherwise she wouldn't be able to sense the snake. She was looking for something venom that could affect someone's eyesight. After around fifteen seconds, she sensed something. Venomous, effects blindness. Satisfied, she then began to ponder how she would go about getting out the snake. "There's a snake within five feet of us, so it's probably in the hole," she announced happily, crouching softly to glance inside. Underwater there were many dark areas, so she was able to see with some effort, and there was a faint glimmer of something metallic. Definitely copper, which meant either there was a pile of copper rupees, or there was a Hylian Plated Snake. "I think this is him... or her." Happy she'd be refilling her supply, Rii reached into her pack and pulled out a long, very pliable material that was dull and brown in the sun. Straightening it and then slowly curving the end of it into a hook, she rocked the new tool between her fingers with a small smile. "We'll see if he's not too far in. Then we can hook him with this. Here. You showed him to me. You can get him, and I'll trap him with my staff when he's out." With that, Rii offered the hook to the young boy.

Eldrin yawned and stretched luxuriously. He was laying in the luscious grass of Hyrule Field, which was charmingly overgrown and tangled. The thief's loot bag laid next to him, bulging with a fortune that was surely not acquired legitimately. On his other side were his buckled shoes, The Purloined Mask and Avarice, laying in a disorganized pile next to him. The cutlass that he had long ago stolen was stabbed into the ground, just above his head. His vest and his shirt were both unbuttoned and thrown open. A gentle breeze slid across the field, rustling the grass and chilling the thief's skin pleasantly. He had no idea how many hours had passed, nor did he care. All he cared to do was lay in the sun for the rest of his life. Until his black hair faded to grey and his smooth skin had wrinkled. Then he would pass into the planet, naught but his blade and lost loot marking his grave. But alas his restless spirit would never allow him to resign himself to such an easy fate.
His red eyes snapped open. His pupils contracted immediately after the sunlight struck them. The blood red eyes were suddenly as wild and dangerous as a raging forest fire. This look faded slightly as his eyelids drooped lazily. He slowly sat up, and, after a long pause, buttoned his shirt back up most of the way. He left his vest open for comfort and slipped his bare feet into his shoes. As the sound of a conversation drifted his way, Eldrin knew it was time to act. He quickly slid his arm into the leather gauntlet of Avarice and adjusted the steel claws on the glove so that they rested in between his knuckles. The The Purloined Mask, he looped through the twine that hung from his collar.
He left his bag and took his cutlass, just in case. He stared curiously as he came upon the pair that had been talking. A young boy staring into a hole and a Zora woman watching him curiously. He smiled, easy targets...
He moved in quickly and silently. He wrapped an arm around the Zora's neck and pressed the razor sharp steel claws of Avarice to her neck. He pointed his cutlass lazily at the strange boy with his right hand. "Hello, darling!" He said with a charming smile. "Let's do this easy, eh? See, I'm lookin' for a donation. And I'm sure you've got somethin' to give. Help support your local brigands, ya know?"

She hadn't seen it coming. Her hearing wasn't as sensitive as it was under water, and she had been listening for snakes. Maybe the correct phrase was that she hadn't heard it coming. Suddenly, however, there were metal claws attached to a humanoid's arm wrapped around her neck. She didn't stiffen, knowing that doing so would not help her case against the sharp weaponry, one of the first things the Zora guards taught her. If she had recognized this as a robbery, she might've stiffened despite knowing she shouldn't. Still, she had never been robbed before. Sure, she'd been traveling for five years, but dumb luck and often traveling in water had kept her from such a fate as being robbed.
The man's voice reached her accompanied by the term 'darling', asking for a donation for the local brigades. Worry washed over her. Were the troops not being supported like they deserved? Rii always had a soft spot for troops and guards, considering her brother's occupation. "For the troops? Mystery Man, you needn't hold a weapon to my neck if that's all you desire. I don't know what kind of donation you want, however. I have little in the ways of money, but healing I could help with," Rii offered. Had she been anyone else, she might've regretted placing her staff down to make the hook for the snake, but currently Rii was under the mindset that the man just wanted her help with a good cause.

Eldrin's left eye twitch slightly in irritation. Why was it that everyone he successfully mugged turned out to be broke? Not to mention she thought he was looking to help soldiers. He released her with a sigh and plopped into the grass. He stabbed the cutlass into the ground next to him. "Forget it," he muttered, chuckling helplessly at his terrible luck. He sat with his feet stretched out in front of him and propped himself up with his arms. He still had the his bag of loot to sell, but he had been hoping for a little extra. He thumped the little feather ornament hanging from the hilt of his cutlass and watched it sway back and forth. That's when he recognized the boy. "Maxie?! What're you doin' staring into a hole?!" He asked, raising an eyebrow. "And who are you?" He directed his attention to the Zora woman whom he had just tried to rob.

Maximus immediately recognized the theif's voice and a gigantic smile spread across his face. He turned around as fast as he could only to realize that Eldrin was holding the girl hostage. Max sighed, the theifs appetite for gold was insatiable. He probably didn't recognize me, he thought. Moments later Eldrin had put away his weapons and plopped down in the grass. Max wasted no time in rushing the young thief, instantly jumping on top of him and yelling, "Eldrin!" After getting a good hug in he tried to wrestle him into a headlock.

Startled, Eldrin fought for a good while to avoid the boy's headlock. But in the end, Maximus proved to persistent to beat. Grinning wildly, Eldrin jumped to his feet, lifting Maximus off the ground at the same time. After a moment of struggling, he pried Max's arms apart. With more force than one should probably use on a child, he slammed Max to the ground and pinned him there. "Long time no see, kid!" The thief grunted, struggling to keep the young assassin still.

She was released from the man's grip as he told her to ignore his command about the donation. Huh. Oh well. Perhaps the soldiers needed money, something she couldn't assist with.
And that's when he recognized Maxiumus, the boy who had been very helpful to her. Maximus referred to the young man as Eldrin, a very nice name in Rii's opinion. Apparently it had been a while since they'd met up, and Rii smiled at their reunion. Eldrin had asked for her name, but she murmured it more to herself as she picked up her staff and the snake hook. "Rii." It was soft, as she figured he wouldn't hear her, but that was just fine with her. She would let them catch up. The boy didn't seem focused on her task anymore, and that too was fine. She wondered if this meant she could catch the snake on her own. Unsure if maybe the boy still wanted to, she decided to be polite like her mother had been when she was unsure if Rii might want to try something. Instead, she reached into her pack and pulled out a glass jar and very durable mesh that she then proceeded to cover the jar with. This would be for getting the venom.

Eldrin smiled and stood up, letting Max go. He dusted himself off, only to find his white shirt had a grass stain. After a moment of spastic panic, he collected himself. At least his breeches were black and therefore hard to stain. Of course, they only went down to just below his knees, so his shins were itchy from the tickling grass. "Nice to meetcha Miss Rii. Call me Eldrin if you'd like, though I'm sure you already heard it from the brat." The thief grinned and held out his hand to shake. He used the term brat affectionately, and the way he said it showed as much. "So what were you two doing?" He asked, directing the question at anybody.

Rii glanced up from her work as she was tying the mesh to the jar with a very thin rope, taking in the appearance of the man after his miniature wrestling match with Maximus. A grass stain was on his shirt, and she absently muttered under her breath a couple herb names that could be crushed and used to remove stains. It seemed he had caught her name, and she smiled at that. "I did, Mister Eldrin," she replied to his remark on his name, mimicking his way of addressing her, except with 'mister', as she was beyond positive 'miss' was only for females. "I'm collecting some snake venom. Maximus was kind enough to help me locate a snake." She smiled brightly, nodding to Maximus in thanks, before finishing her task at tying the rope and setting the jar aside.

Maximus laughed wildly as he wreslted Eldrin into a headlock. He kept up for a while until the theif actually tried and pinned him to the ground. "You win this time!" he yelled happily before getting up. Once he casually brushed himself off he heard Eldrin ask what they were doing and his search for the snake and Rii's offer to retrieve it came back to him. "Oh oh! We were searching for snakes! Hey Rii can I still get him out?" he asked eagerly, walking over to her.

Rii had thought something like that would happen, remembering when she would get distracted from a task as usual and then return to it, thankful her mother hadn't already completed it. It was why she had distracted herself with the jar. Glad her "assistant" was still just as enthusiastic about the snake as before, Rii switched the thin, two foot stick with the hook at the end to her left hand and offered it to Maximus. "Your catch, Maximus. I'll wait with my staff, so you just hook the snake with this and get it out, and I'll hold it still after that with my staff. Just take it slow and don't rip and tear at thin air, because we don't want the snake injured. We don't know how big it is yet, either, so we'll have to decide the rest later. Whenever you're ready," Rii assured the eager boy with a smile, making a small gesture with the staff that was now in her right hand to show she was ready when he was. She felt slightly sad that Eldrin was not included in this ritual, but maybe she could get him in on the hole process. Offer him the job of milking the snake and see what he did. She always got an interesting reaction of the Zora guards when she offered, so there was no doubt in her mind that Eldrin would have an equally humorous response to the idea.
