The moon sat high above the land as owls hooted off in the distance. A young man walked across the empty field, a sword and shield on his back. A red headband was wrapped around his head and his long blond hair was kept in a ponytail with his bangs hanging out in front of his face. His green eyes sat underneath the hair, giving him an almost unreal appearance. If his eyes didn't give you that feeling... his pointed ears, marking him as Hylain, would have.
A pair of black leggings and a long black shirt was what he wore, a mail shirt over the black one and a green tunic over that. A pair of brown gloves and boots sat upon his hands and feet.
A golden fairy accompanied him, fluttering around his head and allowing him a small distance to see in front. The moon helped only a small amount.
He stopped and looked up at the moon.
"It's funny... almost 7 years ago... this land was facing doomsday..." he spoke to the fairy.
Sighing, he sat down on the grass and continued to stare up at the moon.

The night was still. Quiet. It was a sign of success as Kadina hoisted herself on top of the wall, a sack flung over her shoulder. With a grappling hook in hand, she secured it on the inner city side of the wall surrounding Clocktown.
The bandit balanced herself on the wall, her little slippered feet spread apart and her knees bent. She was surprisingly sturdy after an evening spent in the pub taking swigs from other's mugs when they'd glance away. She called it sharing. They called it rotten.
On this particular evening, after being thrown from the bar, Kadina found herself breaking into the game house of a lovely newly wedded couple. It was apparently some rotating bomb game with an entire inventory of bombs, rupees, and other possible prizes that made Kadina froth at the mouth. Needles to say, she robbed them blind and got away with it.
The thief tugged on her rope. Once. Twice. It was safe. And with that, she let the weight of her sack pull her backward over the edge. "Tally-ho!"
Rope in hand, she guided herself down gently and quietly pushing off of the wall every so often to lower herself down. She had gracefully touched down at the base of Clocktown's barricade. Kadina then snapped the end of the rope like a whip and watched as the motion snaked through its coiled twine until the hook at the end flipped out from its secured position and came flailing downward. She caught it by the handle and stuffed the grappling hook into her sack before sprinting towards the nearest shelter of thick woods.
While scampering on tiptoe through the moonlit field, something caught Kadina's eye. A golden orb bobbing in mid air near the ground some distance away.
"Peculiar..." She thought as her curiosity took control and the direction of her course veered towards the orb.
The closer she got, the more she could make out. There was a man and his fairy. She hadn't seen anything like that in ages. Usually only the Kokiri had fairy guides. Could this have been the legendary Hero of Time?
Closer.
He favored certain features, but wasn't wearing the traditional Hero's garb. Still, the curiosity was worth a name.
Kadina saw him look up at the moon. She followed his gaze and shuddered. That thing had always creeped her out. Such a strange phenomena. Looking away, she then wondered if this man had anything valuable. However, he was armed. Kadina thought it better to go in with a plan than to hold her dingy dagger to his throat.
"What a sight, eh? Sometime's I think it still beckons for a staring contest. Eerie bastard use to beat me every time. I think if I deny him his prize anymore, he might come down on me. Make me pay with my life... So I just stopped looking."

The young man's trance was broken as a female voice (with a slight drunken accent accompanying it) spoke up. He looked over to the side he had heard it coming from to see a female figure with a rather large sack standing next to him.
He looked her up and down for a moment, wondering why she seemed so familiar.
Then he realized.
It was Kadina.
He wondered why she didn't recognize him... then remembered that he had lost his hat months ago and now favored a ponytail and a headband.
He smirked a bit. He wondered how long it would take his old friend to recognize him.
"The moon is very mysterious... I've always held a slight fascination for it, myself." He replied, standing up as he spoke.
"I was just thinking about that incident 7 years ago... when the moon was threatening to fall down. The Hero of Time stopped it... that imp was a friend of the Guardians." he absent mindedly stated.
The fairy circled around his head and then went to hover in front of Kadina. The glow from the fairy basked the thief in a golden aura.

"Sky?" Kadina set the sack beside her and cupped her hands infront of her face just under the golden fairy. Her face lit up, not just from the shimmer of the tiny creature, but from the smile that spread across her lips. She chuckled. How funny must she be to have not recognized him. How drunk must she be?
"Long time no see, Artie." She lifted her eyes to look in his. The moon lit them like torches in the night.
"To think I was only a short conversation away from robbing you." She tucked a strand of hair behind her ear as she looked back at Sky.
"So you're just sitting out here pondering the past, huh?" She giggled, but not because she thought it was stupid or anything. Merely because of the alcohol. "What for?"

Artie smiled. She still had her senses... even when intoxicated. "A lot has happened since we last met... other than losing my hat." He said, lifting a hand to gently tug at his ponytail.
Artie looked over at her and froze for a second at how her eyes lit up like torches under the moon. His eyes were filled with many things... hurt and sadness among them and chuckling at her mention of robbing him.
"Still in the thieving business, eh? Still... I would have given you quite a fight." he said, rolling his shoulders making his blade shift slightly in it's scabbard and making the scabbard clink against the shield.
Sky fluttered happily in Kadina's grasp. Making several bell clinking noises in her joy which caused Artie to chuckle.
"That's the first I've heard her do that in a while." he commented, smiling at Sky's happiness.
It was good. For both of them.
Artie was hiding something. Perhaps he wished not to speak of it. Perhaps he had been away from people... especially his friends... for far too long that he had simply forgotten how to communicate.

She giggled lightly as he rolled his shoulders. It was probably true. Kadina remembered Artie to be a magnificent fighter. She was awfully glad she hadn't jumped him after all.
Suddenly, Kadina's eyes widened as Sky chimed merrily in her hands. The sound reminded her of a tiny music box she had once found while playing at the Gerudo hideout as a child. She remembered it was the size of her palms side by side, made of mahogany, and painted with golden swirls and flowers. When the box was opened, a tiny flame ignited and danced. Quite literally, to be exact. It took the form of a dancer. Like a gypsy. Like her mother.
Oh, it was beautiful... but it was a slave. That dancing flame could have set the world a blaze, yet it was tamed and confined. It was heartbreakingly beautiful, but Kadina didn't like feeling sorry for it...
Back to reality, Kadina wanted to clap with excitement at Sky's lovely music, yet she would have certainly squashed the dainty creature between her rough hands.
Kadina took a seat where she stood and crossed her legs before rummaging through her loot. She drew a flask from the sack and tossed it to Artie knowing there was something on his mind he wasn't readily willing to talk about. A little fire water always does the trick, according to Kadina.
"Have a seat. Take a drink! And tell me... Where have you been?" She sat up straight, slightly leaning forward with interest awaiting the stories of adventure, action, tragedy, whatever have he. She let her hands rest upon her ankles where they crossed infront of her, thus allowing Sky to return to her master... If that's what she called him.

Artie caught the flask Kadina tossed over to him in his right hand and flipped the top off of it with his left. Taking a swig of the alcohol as he sat down.
Sky fluttered over to him and hovered near his head, the glow from her illuminated him as he took another swig.
"Well... when we last met, I was still on my quest to find Malon. Which I did. She was taken to a far off land across the Great Bay." he started to say and took another swig.
"I had gotten a tip from one of the goons I had managed to track down and beat within an inch of his life before he gave me the location... he managed to commit suicide before I could get more information out of him. So... I headed out on the first ship I could charter, which happened to be a pirate ship." Artie lowered the flask and looked at her.
"The captain owed me a favor. Anyway... we reached the land about a week after setting course. I believe it was a land called... 'Carnavoria'." He added, taking another swig before placing the top back on.
"I managed to get the captain to hold off for 48 hours... my wolf form was able to track down their hideout using Malon's scent. I infiltrated their lair... lost my hat on the way. Where was I? Oh... yes. I managed to track down their leader and we battled... he was a very good fighter... kept me on my toes. I managed to outsmart him though. Got him to run right under this big diamond chandiler he had hanging." Artie stopped to allow himself to chuckle at this memory.
Sky fluttered around Artie's head, missing the comfort his hat held for her.
Once the hero had calmed down, he patted his thighs and looked back up at Kadina with a rather serious look on his face. "I rescued her, Kadina. I saved my love... we returned to the ship and made way for home. I couldn't do it... I have too many enemies... I didn't want it to happen again..." Artie paused, looking back up at the moon as he spoke.
"I ended it with her... for her sake. I brought her home... but that was it. She understood... but she made saying goodbye that much harder." his voice was only a whisper... clearly audible in the silent field.
His eyes were glazed with a moisture... no tears fell from his eyes. His voice did not waver...
Artie would not allow himself this luxury. After all... he had been chosen.

Alcohol and emotions didn't mix well. It just made them more intense. Kadina felt as if she might cry from the tragic story and Artie's broken heart, but anguish wasn't a very familiar feeling to her, so she merely frowned with despondency. "I'm sincerely sorry to hear that, old friend." She looked away allowing him the privacy to shed a tear if he so wished. She thought she understood, but really, she wasn't sure. She didn't know about love... the real kind of love. The romantic kind. She thought maybe she had once, but was more afraid of it for reasons like this than to permit herself to give in to feeling it. She cut herself off emotionally in fear of ever losing that person. Malon would have to do the same... If they could both do that, they stood a chance at remaining in each other's lives. Should Kadina say that? Could it give him hope, or would that just be a hollow accomplishment? She really didn't know what to say to Artie. And she was starting to question herself. Was it a mistake? No.... nah. She had to hold on to the person she was anyway. She was a loner. But was Artie? "Damn..."[I'll wait for Eldrin before we kick off the adventure ;D Come lighten the mood, silly billy! ]

Artie tossed the flask back over to Kadina.
"You don't have to be sorry. It was my choice." he whispered back and looked down at the ground before looking back up to see Kadina staring off into space, lost in her own thoughts.
He shook his bangs and started to whistle a tune.
A tune he had learned from a strange mask salesman a few months prior to finding Malon.
A tune that calmed him... a tune that seemed to heal his soul.
Perhaps... it could also heal Kadina's soul.
Perhaps... it could heal everyone's soul.
(Now we wait for Eldrin...)

"Ho hum, all the days relics lost in the sand The oldest of men sits on the shore His eyes upon an anchorless galleon The forsaken amaranth graces his mind Eyes of green an' hair of gold A loss unforgiving to the ever cold world Ho hum, the 'Albatross' sails Moonlit waters her steed Sorrow her wake The loss of love Onward, the 'Albatross' sails..."
Eldrin walked through the long grasses of the field, a happy saunter in his step and a sad song on his lips. With each drunken step, his cutlass clanked merrily against his thigh, creating an odd sort of tune for his lyrics. No substitute for the myriad of instruments meant to accompany it, but a tune nonetheless. He had been taught that particular shanty by an old seafarer, the captain of a long-sunken ship. When he asked if 'the oldest of men' ever found his 'forsaken amaranth', he got only a grunt and a sad smile. That sort of thing always confused him. Sadness, not smiles. What was there to be sad about so long as one had good songs to sing, good air to breathe, and (most importantly) good booze to drink? Then again, it was often that others found themselves in love. And that was something he understood even less. How could one feel for another more than themselves? Then again, he supposed that was just the greedy bastard of a thief in him. Maybe he knew what love was. He sure as hell cared for his friends, but was that love? Who knew, who cared?
He'd given up on that crap a long time ago. It was something that a street orphan knew more than any other. The Urchin's one truth: Nobody, no thing was permanent. People died at the slightest provocation, and even the rocks would one day weather away. Caring for something impermanent was like emotional suicide. Besides, love made people stupid, impulsive, and dangerous. It was more of a mistake than anything else. Maybe it was a jaded outlook, but it was a safe one. A painless one...
He shook his head to clear it, just as something caught his eye. A golden glimmer. That's when he noticed two silhouettes in the distance, dark against the cold light of the moon. They were sitting in the grass, watching the sky.
Eldrin smirked a little at this opportunity. He was certain that he wasn't too drunk, and therefore he had a great advantage for reasons only his mind could fabricate. An inspection of his own bottle revealed it to be only half empty... Correction: half full. His grin only grew wider. Some strange music covered his approach, and before long he was within earshot of the two awaiting an opportunity to take them by surprise. They traded a flask and one of them spoke.
"Have a seat. Take a drink! And tell me... Where have you been?"
Kadina? He knew her voice anywhere, but was a little surprised to hear her now. Perhaps she was planning on robbing this other person too? But no, those were the words of a friend. He decided to wait for the other's answer before acting.
"Well, when we last met..."
Eldrin nearly blurted out Artie's name in surprise, but managed to only gasp. This seemed to go unnoticed, as Artie continued to speak. The thief stood in silence eavesdropping on friends who would've easily welcomed him. He was honestly just to shocked to hear Artie here. But yet, it warmed his heart that he had. That feeling, the one he had right at that moment. The swelling of his chest, the unbearable happiness. Was that love? Maybe.
Artie went on to tell a tale of success, and yet of loss. He spoke of rescuing Malon, but also of leaving her. Sorrow was clear in his voice, and Eldrin was sure there were tears in the hero's eyes.
Eldrin suddenly felt the wild impulse to do something crazy. Something to distract his friends from their sadness. To make them laugh. But he stayed himself, that was foolish. He decided to go with a much simpler approach. Eldrin walked up between the two just as Artie began to whistle, not even bothering to conceal his footsteps. Wordlessly, he snatched the flask out of Artie's hand and refilled it with his own. He swirled the alcohol around, mixing them uncaringly. When he was finished he dropped the flask back into Artie's grasp. And tossed what was left of the bottle to Kadina. He stood between them, hand resting casually on the hilt of his cutlass, one finger running along the spikes of the knuckle bow. He didn't need to say that he had heard the story, they knew.
"Lost your amaranth, eh? That's alright... the Albatross sails on..."

The tune had a way of easing Kadina's mind. She smiled and blinked drowsily as the alcohol and music worked together to relax her. She was suddenly reminded why she drank. Because feelings were gross and depressing. Point blank. They were distracting, and free spirits like herself seldom had time for such distractions. They were too busy living.
Here they were in the middle of a field, drunk, the moon shining like a disco ball in the sky. They could be dancing, laughing, joking, stealing, celebrating life and its luxuries, the little things like their serendipitous reunion. Yet love had soiled those happy opportunities.
No, Kadina wasn't the least bit resentful. She understood that Artie and herself didn't feel the same on the subject of love, and that was perfectly fine. She just conceitedly wished that everyone else looked at life the way she did. A wild adventure, pure joy and madness, dangerous and thrilling, limitless possibilities, spontaneous, irrational, ridiculous, silly, unpredictable! Now that she thought about it... the only love that had ever contributed to those factors in her life was the bond between her and her friends. So really... that's all one needed. Friends and alcohol.
Ah! Someone who understood! Eldrin stepped between Kadina and Artie taking the flask from the somber man's hand and filling it anew with alcohol from his own bottle. Kadina took the bottle as he held it out to her .
"Lost your amaranth, eh? That's alright... the Albatross sails on..."
"And there you have it!" She raised the bottle in a toast and took a gulp, passing it back to Eldrin when done. Kadina gleamed at him, happy to see him and thankful for his timing. He had saved the day with his knack for words, something Kadina often lacked. She did most of her effective talking with violence, and her personal thoughts were commonly more valuable than her conversations.
Still, she liked to think she was occasionally distractingly charming. At least she most often felt that way. Could it be confidence or just indifference? She decided the latter since she cared little of what others thought of her. The confidence lied more in her abilities, and less in her reputation. So really, it was both.
"Albatross... That's a fun word. Say! Have you ever seen one?" She had perked up almost instantly. Eldrin must have provided them with an expensive spirit. "I think I'd like to. We should find one!" She stumbled to her feet catching her balance on Eldrin's shoulder then staggered toward Artie. Her sack of stolen treasure was left behind. Kadina ruffled Artie's bangs for him as she walked by. This should take his mind off of things, right? Wait... where was she going again?

Artie smiled at the sight of Eldrin. His heart was warming up at the sight of both of two of his oldest friends. Memories of their adventures together swam through his mind and his smile grew a bit wider. He tilted his head at the comment about the 'amaranth'. But, dismissed it quickly.
"Eldrin! How many moons has it been since we last saw each other, friend?!" Artie grinned, leaping to his feet. Eldrin always seemed to cheer up any mood and it wasn't in any of Artie's memories where that was never the case.
He watched the two of them, drunk as a pair of skunks. Artie was only slightly tipsy. Able to still be fully aware of their surroundings in case if something were to come. That would have been helpful... but Eldrin and Kadina were more than capable of defending themselves drunk as well as if they were sober.
A slight sigh escaped from the hero's lips once more as he sat back down and resumed gazing at the moon. Thinking about the past month, what the future would bring.
"Look on the bright side, Artie." Sky chimed up, floating in front of him. "Malon handed Epona's care over to you. At least you still have her."
"That's until the Hero of Time returns to Hyrule... whenever that will be." Artie replied. But, the fairy was right. Epona was his for the moment. It brought him a bit more joy as he felt around for the ocarina Malon had also given him.
His thoughts were broken as a hand ruffled his bangs. Artie looked up to see the passing bottom of Kadina. He stood up and looked at the two of them. Kadina had seemed to pause and pondered about where she was headed and Eldrin had seemed to start picking a rather nasty bit of something out of Avarice.
Something clicked in his mind. It was as if someone held a candle over his head and lit it.
He had an idea.
"Kadina and Eldrin. I believe I just got an idea..." he grinned as he said this, he grabbed Kadina by the back of her shirt and pulled Eldrin by his. His arms were draped over both of their shoulders and he pulled them close, like a group of children who were whispering so their parents would not catch gossip of their mischief.
"During my travels to and from Carnavoria... we had to make landfall on several islands due to weather. One such place seemed to be overflowing with beer. It was as if the natives themselves pissed it." Artie spoke, grinning even wider.
"Now... I know both of you would rather drunk a bottle of rum before ever touching beer. But, I promise you. This is the best drink you could ever hope to have. Lucky for you... I managed to acquire several barrels full of the stuff back at the house I'm temporarily taking residence in." His grin was even wider, whatever sadness his eyes held was quickly replaced by excitement and an adventurous spirit that almost made his eyes glow.
"That's not even the best part, my friends. After we drink, be merry and catch up. There are also tales of a long forgotten temple hidden in Snowhead Mountain. Something that predates even the Ikana Kingdom. I say we go and have ourselves an adventure... it's been way too long since our last one!" Artie let go of the two and leapt forward, pulling his blade out and pointing it up at the sky for a moment and he looked back over his shoulder at them.

Eldrin took the bottle back as Kadina handed it to him. "Have I ever seen one? Why, I once knew a man who kept a whole flock of 'em... They called him Sammy One Eye... even though he had both," he responded tipping the bottle to his own lips. That was until he found himself being pulled away from the bottle by the back of his shirt. He made a face like a little kid who'd just been denied candy, but this quickly faded as he heard Artie's words.
"Kadina and Eldrin. I believe I just got an idea..."
He grinned at this. He could already hear the mischief in Artie's voice. He allowed himself to be pulled into a little huddle with Artie and Kadina. Then Artie went on to describe a stash of beer and an ancient temple. "Booze and adventure, my two favorite things... with a possibility of treasure as well? Count me in!" Eldrin's eyes were wide with excitement. "Well, what are we waiting for?! Let's get going!" Eldrin declared, marching off. Of course, he had no idea which way Artie's new house was. Still though, he figured he'd just gamble on it. That always worked out, right?

Kadina was testing her straight line, arms out and wobbling side to side, when she was suddenly yanked by the back of her shirt. Artie pulled her and Eldrin in close, and she suddenly felt very self concious about her breath, how it probably reaked of alcohol. This was a usual thing for her to fear when drunk. Inconspicuously, she pulled her hand over her mouth, just incase it was as bad as she thought, and stumbled along side him as he spoke of an island.
"SHERI TELMA!!" She blurted out, knowing the island he spoke of. Quickly, she slapped her hand back over her mouth. Artie continued. Kadina squinted her eyes and giggled.
Her old friend invited them to his temporary home and then spoke of an ancient temple. Now her blood was really pumping. Her imagination ran wild like rivers as she thought of the many possible treasures hidden deep within. Of course, she would have to share. Even as drunk as she was, she remembered the agreement between her and Eldrin when it came to pillaging.
However, there was really no complaining. She enjoyed the company of her friends as much as, if not more than, treasure. And the adventure... well that was always the overlooked prize by many.
"Well, what are we waiting for?! Let's get going!"
In all of her excitement, Kadina pranced after Eldrin. "Right-O! No time to waste! You just can't share moments like this the same way with the sun, you know? Better by night. The moon keeps all your secrets. Take a trip there! I bet you'll find I'm right. It's probably hollowed out and filled with 'em! That's where I'd keep my stash of beer. Except..." Kadina stopped skipping after Eldrin. "He'd probably keep it for himself thinking I owe it to him... since I lost so many staring contests." She practically wilted at this looney realization. A frown hi-jacked her face and she looked at the ground as if her dreams of storing booze on the moon had just been stomped on by the guardians themselves. "But... I could just take all that treasure from the mountain temple and buy Sheri Telma. Problem solved! Ha haaa!" She stuck both middle fingers up at the moon and carried on after Eldrin in a floppy and unstable sort of way.

"Oi! We're going towards the Great Bay." Artie yelled out after the two drunks.
He smiled and shook his head as he watched them.
Yeah... this is going to be a good night.
But... why did he get that feeling that something was going to happen.
