~Character~
Name: Tórir
Age: 17
Race: Human
Weapon: A long bow for distances and 2 small knives (dagger like) for close range.
Power: The ability to understand Ilya even though she is a mute (not sure if this is really a power). He is a dead shot with a bow.
Weakness: Death. Just kidding. He has a weakness to hot temperatures and to fire.
Appearance: Shorter than the average bear (and human). (about 5' 8")
History: Torir was born to a middle class family in the city of Hyrule. His father, a mason, made quite a bit of money. They lived quite well. Well, everyone except for Torir. You see, Torir had a brother who seemed to always outshine Torir. Sure, Torir could get things if he wanted with a little persuading and hard work. This came with the exception of acknowledgement and love. His parents neglected him and showered his brother with affection. Torir had learned to deal with this and decided to accept this fate.
He had decided to stay out of his parents’ way, to make it easier on them and himself. He learned the way of the shadow. He learned how to steal and get away with it, how to slink around without people knowing he was there, and how to not be seen in plain daylight. He had the aid of a cloak that was able to blend in with most things.
One day, in the market with his family, he had seen these two orbs at a vendors stall tucked away under some blankets. He left his family to see what they were. There was one red orb and one blue orb.
“Those there are dragon eggs.” The vendor said, after seeing the curious look on the boy’s face. “Dragons are rare creatures and will choose their partners. If you raise one, you have a higher chance of them befriending you.”
“How much for both of them?” Torir asked inquisitively.
“Whoa there, you don’t look like you can afford them. I did say that dragons are rare. Do you know what I went through to get these?”
“I don’t know sir, but I would like to know how much they are. I think my father could pay for them.”
“Ok, if you think so. They are 300 pounds…each. Still think you can afford them?”
“I will see.”
Torir left to find his parents. When he found his parents, he had gone to his father to ask.
“Father, could I have 500 pounds. I found something neat. If I get them then I’ll be out of your hair for a while.”
“I don’t think you need whatever it is. It is too expensive.” Replied his father.
“Oh come on father, I promise I will not ask for this much ever again.”
“Whatever, here is 200 pounds. Don’t ever ask for anything like this again.”
“Thank you father. Sorry for asking for so much.”
His father handed him 200 pounds and then Torir was off. He was only going to be able to buy one of the dragon eggs and to do so he was going to have to do some major haggling. He was on his way to the stall when a commotion started. It was near the stand. Some guards had reprimanded the vendor and he was struggling to get loose.
“You are aware that it is illegal to sell dragons and their eggs, correct?” Said one of the guards.
“I did not know this.” The vendor lied back.
“LIAR! You wouldn’t have had them hidden if you didn’t know that. You are hereby sentenced to five years in the prison with a 1000 pound bail. You, grab the eggs and let’s get him to the prison.” He said to another guard.
“The eggs, they’re gone.” The guard said back. “They were just here. I don’t know where they could be.”
Little did they know, in the commotion, Torir had swiped the eggs and was off without anyone seeing. He had to bring the eggs somewhere that no one would find them. He had decided to bring them deep into the forest and try to raise them there. He put the money in a pouch and hid that there too. After that, he spent an awful lot of time in the woods raising the dragons. He had them fenced in and tied so that they couldn’t escape. Eventually, they were able to use their breath. The crimson one ended up being a frost dragon and the other being a fire dragon. The frost one seemed to favor him. Maybe he had been chosen by it. Back at home, his parents were getting suspicious of what he was doing. They had no idea that it was dragons though. They confronted him and tried to make him say what he was doing out there but he would not break. They kept him locked up in his room even with him begging to be let out. They would bring him two meals a day. It was like this for three days until finally he got his chance. When his father brought him his plate, he hit him with a stick and staggered him. He hit his father again and knocked him out. He grabbed a pack with some of his stuff in it and he bolted out of his house to the forest. He grabbed his rupee pouch and untied the dragons. He got on the frost dragon, as it has chosen him now, and he got the dragon to fly. It was hard to stay on but he managed. The fire dragon followed them.
They were flying for quite some time when the fire dragon veered off towards a village. The village was in flames. The fire dragon seemed to know where to go and headed straight for one building. The dragon stuck its head in the building and seemed to pull a girl out by her shirt. They flew away, during which, the girl passed out. They landed in a small area and Torir picked the girl from the ground and propped her against a tree.
When she awoke, she looked around at her surroundings, as if she had never seen any of this before. She got up and walked toward the fire dragon with curiosity. She started to reach for its snout when-
“He chose you?” Torir scoffed.
She took a leap and hid behind the dragon, as if in shame. Torir could feel sadness for no reason.
“It’s a dragon you know. They choose their partners. Did you know that?” Torir said kindly, as if he was sorry for her.
She stepped out from behind the dragon looking invigorated.
“It’s fascinating, really. Hunters from all over the world try to detain and control them hoping to harness their extraordinary power. Some are even killed in the process. But you cannot force a dragon to be your partner; it's always up to the dragon." He swayed towards her cautiously awaiting a reply. "You have nothing to say? It's, you know... kind of a big deal."
The girl put her hand on her neck and had a grimacing look.
“Your throat hurts?” She shook her head, irritated. “You want some water?” She rolled her eyes. She opened her mouth and pretended to sing. “You can’t… You can’t talk?” She nodded. He narrowed his eyes.
"Of course you can't talk. Why would a dragon want someone with a voice? No, instead he chose a puny, little mute girl who probably couldn't hurt a fairy. Sheesh." He slapped his forehead. "I tell you, dragons are st-" He was stopped by a line of flame protruding from the fire dragon. He moved just in time as the creature seemed to be snickering afterwards.
He glared at and looked back at the girl. He gave her a friendly smile and extended his hand towards her. And in that moment, they became the closest of friends.
And so begins the adventure between the two dragon riders, and a great turn of events in Torir’s life, as well as a partnership that would never die.
