Continuation of: "Lakeside Liberation"Location: Lake Hylia Two horses pulled a cart through the rocky canyons of Ikana. The sun beating down on them as though it were an archer raining arrows from the cliffs above. On the horses rode Faro, with a shield tied to his back, and Mathayus. Mike was lying in the cart, the stiffness in his legs had prevented him riding the third horse Faro had "commandeered" From the Gerudos in the desert. They only had Ceola's charitable mood to thank for the cart. "When we get there, let me deal with the lich. If you don't come off as a seeker of knowledge, it'll probably kill you." Faro explained to the others. The lich was no help to the three if it was throwing balls of lightning at them. The hiss of the horses' hooves hitting the sand soon gave way to the sound of rustling grass. Past the grass was the Ikana river, and past that was Ikana Castle. "Nearly there." He thought aloud.

"How are you feeling?" Garen asked Mike. The two rode in the wooden cart provided to them. Mike clutched Garen's axe, he was utilizing it as a makeshift cane. His limbs were still stiff and in mild pain.
"My legs are still stinging and now, thanks to the climate, cooking like bread... this is the best I'll probably feel until we meet Faro's lich." Mike described as he stared into the distance through his purple-tinted "vision".
"It will not be long now. We're coming up on the river, Ikana Castle follows soon after." Garen turned to Faro, "What can this lich accomplish that no one else can? I'm not questioning your credibility, I just wish to know the procedure."

Mathayus sat in next to Faro up front not saying anything to anyone. He was in deep thought and didn't feel like engaging in conversation. Besides, Mathayus was never the conversational type anyway.

"No idea." Faro replied. "All I know is that it's been surrounded by knowledge since Ikana fell. It must know something." The horses came to a halt near the river. Last time he was there, Faro had simply jumped over it. Now that Garen was here however, they could merely use his portals to cross. "You're up, assassin."

Garen hopped out of the cart and strode past the horses and to the edge of the rushing waters of Ikana River. "As you wish," he responded. He brought up an arm with the palm facing outward toward the river. A dark red energy swirled up the arm and collected at the palm, forming a ball of swirling power. When enough energy had been concentrated, Garen pulled back his arm like an archer drawing his bow. He then thrust the arm out again and propelled the globe of energy to the far side of the river. At that point, the sphere flattened and expanded into a red wall of portal energy.
For the second gate, Garen raised both arms and almost exactly performed the same action. However, this time the energy coiled outward from his palms and another wall was formed directly in front of him. Once completed, the twin barriers were large enough to allow the wagon safe passage. Garen snapped his fingers, the command for the portals to activate, the barriers linked and opened, forging a gateway across the waters.
Garen turned and strolled back to the wagon. He proclaimed, "Let us continue, not much farther to the castle."

"Hyah." Faro called with a flick of the reins. The horses and the cart moved through the portals without any trouble. The horses weren't even frazzled. Nonetheless, Faro had already decided to give them a good brushing when they returned from their little quest. Now they traveled over the rocky, sandy ground once again. Faro turned the horses right and reached the castle after about twenty minutes. Faro lifted his feet into the saddle and hopped into the cart. "How is he? Can he still move?" He asked.

"Like an old man, yes," Garen joked. He tried to help Mike up on his feet but he resisted.
"I don't need help, I can move fine like this," Mike remarked. He stood up while using the axe as leverage.
"Grouchy like an old man too," Garen jumped out of the cart and gazed at the castle. Mike carefully climbed down the side of the wagon and joined in with Garen's vacant stare.
Without taking his blank eyes off the castle, he asked, "Faro, where in this old fort is this lich you speak of?"

"In a secret library just off the main hall, you'll see when we get there." Faro explained as he headed for the castle. He led them inside, past all of the traps and monsters that lay within. Between the three of them, it was easy going. When they reached the throne room, Faro stopped them. "The door to the library will open there. Wait there so you'll be sure to make it in." Faro told them.

Mathayus said nothing the entire time they followed Faro. Talking wasn't his thing. All he was concerned about was this lich king and if they were going to have to fight it. If they indeed ended up in a fight with the lich king then it was going to be one hell of a battle. In a way he sort of wished it would come to that. Once they stopped outside the throne room Mathayus' thoughts wandered elsewhere while they waited.

Kadina's fingers, wrapped in strips of cloth, grasped desperately over the edge of the river's canyon wall. The Castle was now in sight. She wanted to yell praise for finally reaching the top, but as soon as she had peaked over the edge, a strange portal had appeared and ejected a group of people in a horse-drawn cart. She ducked down behind the canyon wall. Only her curious peeping eyes were visible. Kadina heard familiar voices, but it was hard to see who it was from her distance. "Who does that sound like...?" Her mind raced through it's memory bank trying to match the voices with a face, but nothing came up.
Dammit
They were heading into the castle. What were the chances there'd be someone here now?
I've gotta find a translation of that tablet...
"Faro, where in this old fort is this lich you speak of?"
Faro?! Kadina's eyes widened. Lich? Hmm... I might be able to find just what I'm looking for.
She pulled herself over the ledge and rolled her body behind a nearby shrub where she waited for them to enter the castle. With stealth, she pranced lightly and quietly after them and followed them into the throne room where she hid behind a giant column awaiting their next move. Only seeing their backs, Kadina still had not recognized the others.
(Kadina's met Mathayus, right? I'm not sure she's hardly ever interacted with him.)

(Yes, she has. Ascension is one of them)
"You can come out, Kadina," Mathayus called, his voice echoing throughout the room. Because Mathayus had nothing to do since they got here, he had been paying close attention to their surroundings, even if his mind wandered aimlessly. The ninja had been noting her movements since they entered the castle and he had to say that she was one sneaky thief.

"Fine. She can come too." Faro said dismissively. He wasn't angry, just indifferent. He didn't care who came along on their little journey as long as they succeeded in getting Mike's legs back. Found it. He thought as his hand brushed over a small, square bump on the back of the throne. He pushed it in and the wall the others were standing next to opened to reveal a small, dark passageway.

Busted! Kadina scrunched her face to one side and crossed her arms in slight disappointment. This had been a lot more exciting when she was sneaking, yet she was also slightly relieved she wouldn't have to anymore. She relaxed her shoulders and let her hands fall to her side as she stepped out from behind the column.
Just as she came out, she looked closer to see Mike, Garen, Mathayus, and... Faro?
She didn't even question his acquaintance with her good friends before charging them with excitement. Her face lit up like the moon. The last time she had seen Mike and Garen was during their fight with Max's demon in the Lost Woods, and it hadn't ended well for ol' Mike that day. As she recalled his injuries, she froze before she could wrap her arms around his neck and withdrew herself from the pursuit. Kadina wasn't certain of the details pertaining to his recovery, but she recalled him having assistance while exiting the cart earlier. Instead she grabbed his hands in hers. "I went to Kakariko after the incident and you were gone. Are you alright? What's happened?"

"Don't worry, Kadina I'll be fine," Mike replied in a calm voice. He drew a deep breath to explain the incident. "After I was incapacitated at the woods, Garen warped me to Kakariko to get medical attention. I spent a week on a hospital bed trying to find a solution to the whole 'leg loss' situation. Garen and I were just talking when an elite group of henchmen sent by Ganon broke through the window and knocked me unconscious."
Garen chimed in, "They were fast, organized, and in a large number. After a mad pursuit by me, Mathayus, Torak, and few others, the elites tossed him into a horse-drawn carriage and got away before we could save him. I tracked them to the laboratory near Lake Hylia, where sorcerers created new legs for Mike to use. Their guards spotted me, but Mathayus entered the scene to help. Then the explosion, caused by our Faro here, pretty much blown the building, and the enemy to smithereens. He was on the inside, overseeing the project. Why he is helping us I still don't know why."
Mike pivoted his head toward Garen, "Honestly, I don't care what Faro's motives are, Mike admitted. "Just as long as he can help me move again." He turned his head back to Kadina and looked her square in her woeful eyes, "If you trust Faro, I trust him too." He put his hand on her shoulder, "We can fix this."
Kadina's eyes reminded him, "Oh, I forgot to mention... I was blinded too, but I found a workaround with my kujaku. My eyesight is no issue."
He took a few steps toward the newly opened corridor, "The lich is through there? Come on, no use standing around here." Before he took a single pace, he drank another two sips from the red potion from Garen.
Mike remembered Faro's words, "If you don't come off as a seeker of knowledge, it'll probably kill you." He took a moment to erase any eagerness from his face and took on a more wise behavior.
"Let us continue," he claimed.

"Hurry up, you're burning daylight." Faro said, walking into the passageway. It sounded rude and callous, but a trained ear would have noted the pause. Faro waited until he was sure Mike had finished speaking. He moved down the hallway, and opened the double doors slowly. "Welcome. To the Lost Library of Ikana." Faro said. The lich glided out from behind the stacks, and pointed a mottled finger at Faro.
"You." It began. "Why have you come back?"
