THE ASSASSINS OF HYRULE
History
The Assassins of Hyrule are a clandestine organization of professional killers operating in Hyrule, Termina, and (to a limited extent) some foreign lands. They are known for their absolute efficiency, and for cutthroat business tactics. Their reputation far precedes their blades. Hired by anyone from the lowest beggar with two rupees, to the Royal Family themselves, they are nearly ubiquitous. That is not to say they lack standards, however, as they rarely accept contracts to slay those deemed undeserving of death. However, the cruel and cold-hearted sleep ill at night, knowing they may one day meet one of these killers. Their reputation is so extensive, in fact, that the AoH is hardly considered a criminal organization. Though assassination and murder are, of course, very illegal in Hyrule and Termina, they have little to fear from the law. Of course, a dozen guards would stand no chance of taking down even a lone Assassin, but they usually would not even try. The Assassins are often considered heroes of the people, as they have been integral in saving the land countless times. Despite this, they remain a extremely secretive organization, and often hide or disguise their appearances when in public. Though they are widely known to be working for the good of Hyrule, their actions are nonetheless quite illegal. The government shows no interest in thwarting the AoH, but still has deployed Phoenix XV agent Neco to investigate the organization. As of yet he has not discovered the location of their
main headquarters.
Few members of the AoH are known, and, in fact, their true numbers aren't even known. For all the world knows, they could have a thousand man army dispensed throughout the land... or perhaps it is only the dozen or so names whispered on the streets. Even those who are known are seldom known by appearance, usually only a living urban legend. Of course, they are known by their extensive web of contacts throughout Hyrule, Termina, and lands beyond... but these people often know only as much as they need to, and are all fiercely loyal to the AoH. Whether this is true loyalty, or merely fear, is unknown.
Known Members
Torak WolffangThe legendary Grandmaster of the Assassins of Hyrule is known by all. An immigrant from the land of Carnavoria, the assassin quickly made a name for himself. It is whispered that he is a close personal friend of the King of Hyrule himself. Many of the more superstitious claim that he is a vicious werewolf, many believe he is but a man raised by wolves, while some insist that he is possessed by the demon spirit of an ancient wolf king, and still others maintain that he is sorcerer wolf, merely pretending to be human. No matter the wild claims, all seem to see some connection with the Assassin and the wolf.
BladeKnown only by that moniker, this Assassin is believed by Hylian Special Forces to be Wolffang's second in command. As with all of the Assassins, he is legendary in repute. All know of his golden wolf eyes, and his stark white hair. He wields hook-bladed swords, and if the urban tales are to believed, demon claws. As with Torak, there are many absurd beliefs about this Assassin among the common-folk, the most common of which says that he is the son of a demon. Half man, half monster, they say he has superhuman strength, as well as enhanced smell. He as well seems to be wolfish in nature, and, supposedly at least partially wolf himself. Perhaps, it is merely his name that forms this connection.
ArgothThis famed man is believed to be one of the senior Assassins of Hyrule. It is said that his bloodlust is matched only by his compassion. Despite this kindness, he is an extremely ruthless killer when he is given cause. One famous story claims that he died, murdered by his surrogate son who had been driven mad by a demon. But that when the taker of souls came to guide him into the afterlife, he cut her throat, drank her blood, and ate her flesh. Thus, the story goes, he was reborn. Other versions of the myth claim that the Goddess Din, upon seeing the boy Max weeping over his corpse, shed a single tear for her fallen warrior. They say her fiery tear gave him life anew. Some,
less reputable sources, claim that he is merely an intelligent zombie, who forgot how to die. Other than those claims that he was brought back to life, none seem to believe that this Assassin is actually supernatural in any way. Rather, they say, he holds his own among his often demonic, superhuman brethren through pure skill.
MaximusThe boy prodigy, he hasn't been known for long, but he has quickly gained reputation. Adopted by the Assassin Argoth when his parents were killed (or turned into horrible monsters in some versions of the tale), the boy trains among some of the best fighters in the world. Even amid the guild of trained killers, Max is known to be a fast learner, and a natural at taking lives. Contrary to what should be implied by that, he is often claimed by the old women of Hyrule to be the "sweetest little thing". They say he's a joy to be around, and only shows his murderous streak when friends are threatened. Despite his personality, many claim that he is a shape-shifter, possessed by a demon of pure evil. They say he even killed Argoth in a maddened rage induced by the demon.
Garen ArthisA well-documented Assassin, due to his past life. This man was once the famed Captain of the Castle Town Guard, and a skilled operative working for the Hylian Monarchy. Trained in the ancient Sheikah arts he is a skilled warrior (a ninja, some may claim) capable of utilizing his chakra, or inner force to perform stunts akin to magic. Furthermore, he is believed to have developed a new ability since leaving the guard. It is said that he can open portals, bridging gaps in space itself. The accuracy of these claims remains a mystery. He left the Government years ago and, at some point reportedly joined the AoH. He still maintains many connections within the Government. It is unknown who these connections may be, though the Hylian Special Forces has many suspects. The new Captain of the City Guard,
Mike, was once investigated by Pheonix XV for connection to Arthis (a known old friend of his), but he was cleared of all suspicion by Neco and
another agent.
ElyeA newly inducted Assassin of Hyrule. Believed to be an immigrant from the land of Holodrum, or rather it's counterpart Subrosia. Other reports seem to imply that he is of the Twilight Realm itself, or at least weilding its power. As of yet, little is known of the skill of this Assassin or his origins and/or powers. Phoenix XV agent Neco has, as of yet, found little to report on the Assassin.
Edward KiddThis infamous pirate was recently discovered to be an errant Assassin of Hyrule. Reports claim that he is mostly independant of the Assassins, but still maintains his status and occasionally performs missions for the organisation. Well known to be a skilled swashbuckler and even claimed to possess weapons of the future (called flintlock pistols, or some nonsense like that). These 'pistols' are basically miniature cannons, small enough to be held in the hand. He is a known womanizer, and a drunk, but also a ruthless pirate feared by any good honest merchant of the sea. It has been recently discovered that Kidd has some association to the gypsy bandit
Kadina, though whether this is a romantic situation, or merely a criminal partnership is unknown. As Kadina is already under investigation, the matter will be handled less by Neco and more by other agents.
Addendum
The Assassins of Hyrule was created by member
Artie, and as such he is owner of the organization. If you wish to create an AoH character, just contact him (or if he's unavailable, another Assassin), and discuss the matter.
