Continuation of "Abomination"Location: Lake Hylia Maximus slowly and dreadfully walked down a dimly lit stone staircase. Torches lined the walls but they were spaced farther apart than usual. The stone steps appeared to be worn and cracked, like they had been tread on for many years. It was narrow, only enough room to travel single file. Moss had grown in the corners of some steps and long ivory snaked up some of the walls as he passed by them. The tomb had an terrifyingly eerie ambiance but at the same time almost serene, and soothing. As he reached the end of the staircase he yanked a torch from its resting place upon the wall and strolled into broadly spaced area that branched off into several catacombs. Tombs stood on either side of him as he passed through it, names and final words carved into stone slabs that covered their resting place. Crevices along the walls featured decayed corpses and old skeletons all adorned in the garb of the Assassins of Hyrule. The catacombs that branched from the room were just as narrow as stair case and also held crevices for the deceased. A small network of catacombs and tombs were spread across the underground of the Shadow Temple, the ancient burial ground for the Assassins of Hyrule. Maximus reached the end of the spacious mausoleum and stopped in front of the tomb he was looking for. His old mentor lay across the stone with his arms crossed over his chest. The assassin blades shone ostentatiously in the torchlight, emanating the pride of being an assassin. Argoth was dressed in his usual assassin clothing, just as he wished to be when he died. His skin was a pale gray color and the soul that had once resided in him was long gone. The assassin looked like he was at peace, and as Max stared at him with tears in his eyes he placed a hand on his master's. "Rest in peace, friend," Max whispered.

". . . I'm sure he is in a better place now." A voice spoke from behind Max. Lien was there, meeting Maximus' gaze with his aqua eyes. His horned-hood that he usually wears to shadow his face was down in respect for the dead, revealing his shoulder-length blonde hair. "I'm just. . . rather sorry that I wasn't there to help him. . . but then again, I'm not sure if my presence would have been enough to change Fate. . . Such a curious thing Destiny is I suppose."

Maximus didn't turn around to look at Lien, "He is, a much better place. Thanks for showing up Lien, I never really met you, and Argoth never really knew you, but I'm sure we all could have been good friends if he were alive," Max said, turning around to face Lien with the best smile he could give in a situation like this.

Lien just simply frowned. "You do not need to smile if you do not wish to. And I know, I'm always on the move. . . never really was a people's person. . . heh, I'm not even human at all. But that is not important of course. . . Will you be fine?"

Max nodded, "Yeah, I'll be okay," he said.

Eldrin stared at Argoth's corpse silently. Keeping his thoughts to himself for once. His friends didn't need to hear his cynical views on "a better place" and "destiny". The thief didn't look particularly sad, a smile lingered on his lips, but it was empty. He said his goodbyes to the assassin silently, standing in the shadows of the crypt.
"Sometimes... It's all person can do... To smile when they want to cry. But we have to, we have to keep moving forward, we don't have time to stop and bawl our eyes out over every fallen friend..."

". . . if you say so Eldrin. . Honestly, I've never lost anyone so close to me. . . so I do not know what remorse is or how one honors the dead here in Hyrule." Said Lien, sheepishly looking down at the ground. Proding a stone tile with the toe of his boot.

Eldrin grinned at Lien, cheerful again. "Neither have I really... Well there was... Anyway, I just say those things sometimes. Don't know where they come from." He looked into the darkness surrounding them, watching for the others.

Blade walked in, his hood down. Without it, his white hair, wolf ears, and yellow eyes were visible.
"Sorry I'm late. I, thought I was honoring him that way. Probably not." Blade said softly.

Mike walked over to Argoth's corpse, as he stared at his deceased friend he thought of all the good times with him. Thelaughs, the killing, the bloodshed, the things that he did that made him Argoth. He was always charging into battle, always had a need to satisfy his bloodthirst. Yet, he always came out alive. He thought. Foolish yet mighty... Rest in peace, friend.

Just behind Mike, Iona came to stand in front of the stone solemnly, a single stark white rose in hand. She hadn't known Argoth well, but decided to pay her respects anyways. Blinking rapidly and swallowing, Iona placed the rose down at his side with a shaking hand and took her hand back slowly, sighing. She stood there, trembling slightly for a moment longer, thinking about the man dead before her. Then she suddenly retreated back into the shadows quickly and soundlessly.

Blade backed up to where she was standing. "I know it's hard, but you barely knew him and he lives on in Max." Blade said quietly. "You've never lost a friend before, have you?"

Max turned around to adress his friends, "Thanks everyone...for coming here. I know some of you didn't know Argoth well, but it means a lot to me that you would show up and pay your respects to him," he said. Max gave Iona a light hug as she passed by to give Argoth the rose, a small thank you for coming. He let go to let her retreat to the shadows. Max bowed his head, tears flooded his eyes but he denied them passage onto his face. As silence consumed the room Maximus began to speak ever so soflty, "My favorite memory of Argoth was when he knelt in front of me, with a smile on his face, and accepted me as his apprentice. I won't ever forget that." He then raised his head to look at everyone, "Would...anyone like to share a favorite memory, or say anything on his behalf..you don't have to."

"Err. . . To be honest. . . I do not have a memory of him to share sadly. . . I wish I sort of did." Lien admitted, looking down to the ground.

(I think Argoth is the first ZP character to actually have a death and funeral...I may be mistaken though...)
Footsteps echoed through the Temple as Torak walked through the darkness with Azrael walking next to him. "Thank you again for doing this, monk." Torak said to Azrael, looking over at him. Azrael's hood was up and he was looking straight ahead. "Don't mention it, assassin. I would have done this even if we were not allies. Such as the duty of a Desert Monk..." He said, noticing spirits of the fallen soldiers from Hyrule's bloodied past poking their heads out and watching the two of them.
More spirits watched them and Azrael noticed some of them wore the garb of the Assassin's of Hyrule. "Why did your group choose the Shadow Temple as it's resting place for it's fallen members?"
"We were all born in the darkness...and thus we return to the afterlife in the darkness." Torak replied.
They had reached the chamber with everyone else in it, they were surrounding Argoth's coffin.
Torak walked to the casket and said "Sorry I'm late, friend."
