The dark caverns that branched from dodongos caverns and extending deeper into the mountain contained many caves. One of which was lit by candles and flames made of magic.
Inside this place one would find the bodies of young children mangled and torn, bodies sew and stitched together. Amalgamations, birthed by the mind of an insane man.
A Four tables lay in the room, two currently occupied by bodies, one held books and ingredients, and atop the last table lay an open book, which read the following.
Entry One
It seems, that the loss of my arm has made me only want to seek this immortality I seek, and the power I crave. I'm starving for the power, my skin craves the flesh of others.
I thought that maybe after I grafted myself with the skin of redeads my hunger would be sated. But no, I craved the life of the the living for days. I placed the skin grafts over my chest, arms, and my jaw. My body adapted nicely to this, my teeth now pointed and sharp, made for ripping.
The skin itself changed and melded with mine, my other skin deteriorating and being replaced by this new grey blue.
I will begin my next experiment soon enough, my apprentice has returned and he will be needed.
Entry Two
I write this now as my apprentice sleeps, he has helped me in the greatest way possible, he sought wisdom of darkness and with my guidance has helped me pull a soul from the void. We are attempting to place this old soul into the body of a child, rejection keeps occurring however. It seems, no normal child can take the strain, I might have to take matters into my own hands and steal a child who could handle a burden of magic flowing into his body. I will write more on this in my notes, but now my apprentice awakes and a new day of research begins.
Entry Three-Eight
----------- we have found a suitable child, he has the ability to handle Veliun's dark magic, and it flows through him smoothly. The child's name was Ivan --------, we found him near the Castle Town, ---------------- is apparently his father. So to hide his identity we have removed his most recognizable traits.
The soul has been placed inside the body of test thirty two, the child's body has been spasming and changing trying to meet the demands of the soul. His hair which was once a fiery red as my own, is now a lustrous black, and is more wild now, seeming to flow in which ever direction it wishes. I checked his eyes, the green irises are now a deep red. His skin has tanned considerable, his pale tone now gone. We hear him scream often.
Veliun is beginning to have second thoughts, but he still seeks the wisdom I have promised him. His thirst for knowledge is so easily abused by those he trusts, sad really. The child's body has finished changing and I have begun my next experiment on him. The dragon's skin I had retrieved from the Fire temple, which rested at the top of the lava, I have managed to make a potion to help it expand along the boy's body. If only I could have retrieved some of Lien's skin. However, Volvagia's will be better in my own mind.
It's been three days, the boy's body attempted to reject the skin graft and muscle graft, however after a few potions and tinkering we have managed to make his body accept the dragon's skin. He has had two adaptions which we did not even consider, his left eye is surronded by a stone like substance, and it travels up into his hair forming a horn. The skin however, seems to have spread to the base of his fingers and up to his collar bone, it has also stopped spreading. With this success, I know my arm can be replaced easily.
--------------------------------- ---- --------
Veliun is now my puppet, my potion will have him sleep for eight days, and will keep him alive. I have lost myself it seems, as I read back I noticed I my thirst and hunger has become overbearing. I regret nothing and I ask that for those who knew me to remember me as the man I was, but to kill me as I am now. My apprentice's arm lay on the table before me, severed from his body. This will be my final piece before I leave here. I wrapped both their bodies except their faces, they'll live but if not found they will die here slowly.
Entry nine
The experiment is over and Veliun's arm is astounding, it melded with the skin of the dead and has itself adapted to the dark skin. The fingers are bone-like, the tips sharp. The color has changed to a darker tone as well, I feel sick.........in a wondrous way. Veliun is confused as to why I did this, he saw me as a father figure, and I abused that for my own gain. I pray he lives and finds my journal, the one after my repentance and sacrifice, the one I wrote when I first found him.
Veliun sat on against the wall, his eyes dark as he stared at the bodies strewn across the floor. He clutched at the place of his former appendage and scowled, his body showed many scars from the experiment he was used for. He wanted to help others, not end their lives and ruin them.
He was tempted to end the life of the unnamed boy they had changed and bastardized. The child a perverse thing of magic, a sin made by the hands of a madman and his own.

Maximus wandered the caverns under the mountain, he didn't know where he was going, but he didn't care. Max didn't even know why he was down there in the first place, curiosity he guessed. He had never traveled through caverns before. Stuffing his hands in his pockets he sauntered on, glancing around to see if there was anything interesting here.
The smell hit him like a ton of bricks, and he nearly stopped in his tracks. His face curled into an unpleasant expression and he moved his hand up to cover his mouth and nose. "Augh, what is that?" he asked aloud. Max did his best to follow his nose, and it wasn't far away that he found the source of the putrid stench.
As he entered the room he immediately stopped at the entrance, his heart stopped and so did his breathing. There were bodies, everywhere. All of them horribly deformed from what seemed like skin and muscle graft experiments, although Max was too young too know, and just thought they had all been horribly murdered. The smell combined with the sight of the rotting carcasses almost brought him to tears. Who could have done something like this? This was inhuman beyond belief. As his eyes scanned around the room he saw a boy, about his age splayed across a table, he was still breathing but had been abhorrently mutated and deformed. Max withdrew his dagger for defensive purposes and ever so slowly crept into the room.
He hadn't noticed Veliun sitting off to the side until he was about halfway in, and stopped once again. The man was missing an arm and was holding his stump with the one he had. Max stared at him in complete shock, was he a victim too? Or the one who had caused all this? A sudden boiling anger rose up inside him and he began to approach the man. He seemed to be in a state of shock as well, and disbelief. Max held his dagger out in front of him as he got closer, he didn't know what this man was capable of. When he was as close as he would get Max asked, "What the hell happened here?"

Veliun, looked up at the man quickly, his eyes landing on the dagger. The zora's body immediately stiffened at the sight of the blade, he quickly pointed his hand at the man as his skin darkened as his called forth dark magic. "Who are you?! How did you find this place?!" Veliun yelled as his eyes shone with uncertainty. He believed this place to be safe, almost impossible to find unless you knew the path. He was still in shock mostly, as he stared at the youth.
They were far into the caverns, no one should have found the lab this easily, he kept repeating in his head. The breathing of the boy upon the table disturbed him in the silence of the moment. "Answer me!" Veliun yelled as his arm fin extended, he trusted no one now after the betrayal. His mind was tired and his muscles screamed in pain as he tried to push himself back up into the wall even more, out of paranoia.
The magic around his hamd flared around wildly, as if it were fire. His eyes glared at the young boy before him. "I won't hesitate to harm you! I won't!" The zora yelled, paranoid as he had sat surrounded by the dead for days.

(Hey Jalex, Max is 9 years old, not really all that mannish, haha)
Max flashed the man a brilliant white smile, trying to calm him down a bit. The man seemed to have been a victim from the way he reacted to Max's entrance. He put his dagger away and showed his hands to Veliun. "Hiya!" Max said, forcing his anger back. "My name is Max, and this place smells really bad. That's how I found it. Don't hurt me mister, I don't want to fight you, it wouldn't be good for either of us," Max sat down far away enough from the man as to where he wouldn't feel threatened. "So, what happened here?"

Veliun scoffed at the boy's naivety as he let go of the magic and let his hand fall to his side. "What happened..........nothing you should now." Veliun replied shortly as he glared at the boy, who had put away his weapon and sat down. "A child shouldn't be here! These corpses are proof enough of that." The zora growled out, self hate filled him as he looked at the bodies.
A groan could be heard from the one boy who slept atop a table, and Veliun stiffened as the child moved. "Damn kid." The zora said as he relaxed slightly as the boy became still, he sighed before speaking up, regret lacing his words. "What happened here in short was the abuse of magic, and the birth of this amalgamation and another. Neither deserve the life they have in my opinion." The zora said though he himself had a hard time even looking at the lad that lay on the table.

Max frowned at the man, he seemed to be a little insane. He got up from where he sat and wandered around to the opposite side of the table the young boy was laying on. "I know what you're thinking mister, and just because I am a kid doesn't mean I am naive or ignorant. I know you had something to do with this, that much was clear when I first saw you. I'm not exactly sure what the purpose of this was, but I can see in your eyes that you regret this wholeheartedly. This boy, no matter what you turned him into, deserves life, just like you do, no matter your crime." Max was staring hard at the boy on the table, wondering what his life must have been like before this. For some reason what he just said spilled out of him, he almost forgot Veliun was in the room. He then looked back up at the man, "I am more than just a child mister, so tell me, what was the purpose of all this?"

"I regret listening to the lies of helping end sickness and saving lives. Everything we did, just led to self experimentation and killing the child that thing used to be." Veliun glared, he was not insane but he knew better than to trust anyone. "I may have helped, but I did so for what I thought was good, which turned bad." The zora growled out as the boy moved around the table.
Veliun swore in his mind to hunt down the old monk and kill him, the man betrayed him and left him for dead. "If you want more info, the notes are on the table over there, though the bastard marked out most the information and burned some of the notes." Veliun said as he jerked a thumb at a table across the room, the boy's movements disturbed him. The soul was older than the body, more than twice as old really, and it bothered the zora to see the boy.

Max's ears perked up after the man was done speaking, he ignored the part about notes. "We? Who else were you doing this with?" he asked.

Veliun raised a brow at the young lad. "Jalex, was the mastermind behind this whole epidemic you see. He used me, and everyone else to further his insanity and become a monster. Hope he burns in hell." The zora said growling at his former master's name as he glared at the wall, focused on his thoughts of the man. Veliun got to his feet shakily before stumbling his way to the table. The journal laying face up, and the zora slammed his fist down atop the pages. "This outlined everything, I thought he was just writing notes, but now, he wrote down everything."
The boy on the table turned before coughing, groaning once more as he moved. Veliun's hand clenched as he sat there, the boy's movements continuing, as he moved to sit up. "Jalex made the kid the way he is now, and tore my arm off for himself." Veliun knew he shouldn't have helped, but the thoughts of helping others and ending sickness, the lies sounded so tempting.

Eldrin wandered blindly through the dark caverns. His mind, for once, was set on a specific purpose. And this purpose was shockingly selfless. He had heard from a slave trader that several children had been going missing near the mountain. At first he had shrugged it off as gossip. But then, he realized that it had been a while since he'd seen Maximus. He knew Maximus could handle himself... But what if it was someone like Ganondorf? Tough as he was, Max couldn't stand against Ganon. Hell, Torak probably couldn't even kill the Gerudo King. Fearing for his young friend's safety, Eldrin had headed straight for Death Mountain. It had taken some time, but soon he had found these caverns.
Suddenly, he heard footsteps in the darkness ahead of him. The thief clenched his fist and walked slowly forward. By the stranger's change in pace they had noticed him also. When they were in close range of eachother they both stopped. "Max?" He asked hopefully.
A voice that seemed slightly familiar answered back. "Sanger... And you are the thief correct?" The man said, stepping closer so that the thief could see his scarlet hair.
Eldrin relaxed. He didn't know Sanger very well. In fact, they had never spoken. But the man's tone was far from hostile. More bored than anything. "That I am! Eldrin, at your service! Well, actually not at your service... I'm a bit busy at the moment." He said, smiling even though Sanger could not see it. "Say, have you seen any kids around here? Blond hair, green eyes... Slightly bloodthirsty..."
Sanger shook his head at the thief. "I have seen no children in these caverns. I am here on research. Ganondorf's spies report that a man named Jalex has been spotted frequently entering these caverns... He has information that would be ideal to my cause."
Eldrin barely payed any attention to Sanger's words until he mentioned Jalex. "Ooh! Jalex is here! Awesome! I haven't seen him in forever! Maybe he knows what's happening to the children! Let's go find him." Eldrin grabbed Sanger's arm and tried to drag him along. Unfortunately, Sanger turned out to be a lot stronger than the thief.
Sanger sighed. Of course, the thief's companionship was not at all something he desired. But still, the thief serve as a good shield should things get ugly. "Fine, but be careful... Something evil has happened in these caverns... I can feel it... It permeates the air like the thickest of smoke."
Eldrin dismissed the 'evil is in the air' comment, and walked away.
Before long Eldrin and Sanger found a horrid stench that really did permeate the air. Eldrin assumed that this was what Sanger was talking about.
Finally, they found lights. Eldrin ran toward them and burst into the lab. He quickly looked around, noticing the maimed and altered corpses. Then he noticed Max. "Max!" He yelled grabbing the kid and shaking him. "You're okay!"
Sanger ignored the thief and his eccentricities. Rather, he walked over to Jalex's notes and examined them. He paused for a minute at the comment on red hair. He wondered if this man or this boy could possibly have been related to him, but then dismissed it. He cared little for family beyond the small one he had patched together.
Eldrin's attention suddenly shifted to Veliun and his missing arm. "Fishface! What happened to you? Did someone else eat you?" He asked, before shifting to a more serious demeanor. "What happened here?" He asked, echoing Max's question.
Sanger finished reading the most important notes and sighed. He didn't have time to read them all. He decided that he would have to find the man himself. He walked closer to Veliun. "You, Zora. You are the apprentice of the man named Jalex, correct?" He inquired. Just then, he noticed the boy's moaning and Veliun's reaction to it. In one movement he drew his sword and held it out at the boy. The serrated edge brushed against the kid's throat. "I can put him out of his misery." He offered to Veliun.
Eldrin looked between Veliun and Sanger in confusion. Veliun was Jalex's 'fishy apprentice'? In that case, was Jalex hurt too? He was already missing an arm, so what else would they take. And then the business about the kid. He was apalled by this man's willingness to end the life of a child. He stared at Veliun, hoping the Zora would be noble enough to refuse.

Maximus took in the man's words but had no idea how to respond. The trauma caused by this Jalex seemed to be of substantial proportions, and the man before him hated him for it. Max did feel sympathy for him, being betrayed and stolen from had to build up a hatred inside him. Especially when people died for what he was the cause he thought was a good one. Nothing in Max's short lived life compared to what he must be going though, and the only thing that happened to come out of his mouth was, "I'm sorry.." his voice was barely a whisper. "But right now, I'm concerned about this kid on the table, we should help him," Max finished, staring at the boy. He looked to be in pain. Just then Eldrin and someone he had never seen before entered the room. A very bright smile expanded across the boys face and he happily replied, "Eldrin! Of course I'm okay, why wouldn't I b...oh." He realized that Eldrin probably thought Max could have been the one on that table. Max quickly shook the notion from his head and looked over at the man that had accompanied his friend. He was pouring over Jalex's notes and seemed to be quite interested in them. Then suddenly, before Max even realized what was happening the man's blade was rested over the boy on the table's neck. Max immediately latched onto the blade with his bare hand and glared angrily at the clearly deranged man. "You'll have to kill me first," the anger in his voice was clearly issuing an ultimatum.
Icylius traveled through the empty caverns for the sake of getting away from the retched forest he spent most of his time in. These secluded tunnels seemed like a perfect place to wander while avoiding people. But as he wandered the horrid stench of rotting flesh assaulted his nostrils. His face cringed and he stopped walking. What the hell?" he pondered, moving in the direction of the smell. Something told him that if he were to continue following the stench that he would run into unwanted persons, but he ignored it and continued anyway. As he drew nearer to the foul odor his eyes were on the brink of watering. When he finally reached the source his eyes grew so wide they almost consumed his entire face. At first he didn't notice the live people in the room, the dead bodies that littered the space horrified him. Even he knew this wasn't right, and it angered him to see this done to people, despite his feelings toward them. Icylius stood in the doorway, not moving, what sick minded person would do this? Once he realized that there were people who hadn't been horrendously deformed and experimented on in the room he began to identify them. He knew Max, Eldrin, and Azrael, but not the other two. Icylius had no intention of revealing he was there and decided to not say or do anything to attract attention. He would let them notice him on their own.

Azrael dropped to one knee as a wave of something horrible washed over him. Tears streamed helplessly down the Desert Monk's face as he felt an overwhelming nausiation flood through him, his gag reflex kicked in and soon he emptied his stomach's contents onto the rock before him. He reached down and grabbed the canteen around his waist and took a drink from it, throwing up mostly bread had given him quite a thirst. "What the hell was that..."He breathed out, he wiped the sweat and the tears away from his face with his left sleeve and shakily stood up, using the rock wall for balance.
He knew what it was...a massive wave of souls and dark energy lingering here. The Shadow Temple had an energy similar to this...but it had been tamed with years of protection from the Sheikah.
"Only one way to find out..." Azrael muttered and continued down the tunnel. He jogged for what seemed like miles...passing what seemed to be the same rock formations and paintings in the wall. He thought he had passed the open grave of a Goron chief, but paid no attention to it as he continued.
He started to hear voices coming from a nearby chamber, the Monk picked up his speed and turned the corner and stopped dead in his tracks from what was in the room.
Corpses were scattered across the room...Azrael couldn't tell if some were human or not because of the disfigurement. He saw Veliun, Max, Eldrin and a person he did not recognize already in the room. Before Azrael could stop himself he said "Jalex is the one responsible for this...isn't he?!"

Veliun stared at the ground before turning around eyes glaring. "The notes are mostly useless, Jalex took the only important notes and left the rest, these books only contain end results and events. You can have them." The zora hissed as he glared at the man, he was grateful Max had stopped the man from harming the boy. He prayed he would not regret ending the child's life, this was essentially one of Jalex's greatest experiments, and it sickened him to see it.
The boy upon the table opened his eyes and attempted to sit up, he felt light headed and tired as he groaned. Veliun winced as he saw the boy move, but the zora refused to end an innocent's life, even if he wished he could. "If you raise your blade again, the notes vanish. Take them and go, leave the journals however."
The journals were the only thing Jalex wished to keep, they outlined Jalex's future plans as well as all his past thoughts. "Why you here Eldrin....shouldn't you be somewhere you can make a profit?" The zora asked glaring at the thief. "I hope you don't plan on finding the monk, he's long gone. Good riddance too." The zora muttered as he watched the boy begin to stir, he twitched at the boy's movements.
"Where......" The boy whispered as he slowly moved a hand to his face. "Where...am...I?" The boy said more clearly now as he brushed his blackened hair from his face and pulled himself up.
He looked at everyone in the room, as he touched his hand upon the stone like substance around his left eye. "What am I doing here?" The boy as he grasped at the structure on his face, propping himself up with his other arm.
Veliun scowled as he turned his face away from the boy, the child have red hair once and pale skin. But now he sat there, hair longer, black, and red eyed. The adaption to the dragon's skin didn't help either, as the rock substance around his eye flowed up into his hair line before forming a horn.
Veliun had heard Azrael, but he chose not to answer feeling it was not necessary as he grabbed his left shoulder. "The journals are over here if you wish to see." The zora said to the monk before turning away from everyone all together.
The monk was right to assume the din follower had done this, and Veliun was proof of this as was the now awake child.

Azrael watched as Veliun turned to go. Despite Veliun being Jalex's apprentice...The Desert Monk knew the Zora wanted to help others..but instead was just another tool used to fulfil a madman's desires and wishes.
Azrael waded through the sea of corpses that were piled around on the floor, he came to the group of his friends and the boy with the black hair and dragon's skin. "Tell me what happened as we leave...we need to get this child out of here. He has been put through many unspeakable evils...none that I would wish even upon Ganondorf..." Azrael said as he looked upon the child sitting on the table.

Sanger would have had no qualms against killing Maximus also. Preventing one from ending another's misery was a sin in itself... But he wasn't here to fight. He was here for research. He put his blade back in its place on the back of his belt and nodded in gratitude to the Zora. He returned to the notes and began to gather them, ignoring the two newcomers. The notes would be useless to him, as the Veliun had said. But he would bring them to Ganondorf as a show of good faith.
Eldrin stared in shock between Azrael and Veliun. Jalex was responsible for this? Veliun hadn't confirmed it, but he certainly didn't deny it. One would think an apprentice would be the first to defend their mentor... Unless their mentor couldn't be defended. His head spun as he remembered the kind monk. Then he noticed... "Your left arm..." He said, looking at Veliun's fingers grasping the spot where an arm had once been. He was trembling now. His eyes were wide with the shock of the horrible revelation. "Azrael, remember... In the Fire Temple..."
Sanger turned from the notes as the boy he had tried to kill sat up. He watched the confused boy carefully. He didn't seem to be in much pain. Sanger decided that it was a good thing that he hadn't killed him. If the boy wasn't in pain then there was no reason to end his life. Even though the boy was an aborration of nature, he still had the right to live.
Eldrin glanced at the child, taking in his altered appearance. He actually didn't mind the boy's disfigurations. He walked over to the kid and smiled. "C'mon, you can trust us. We're your friends now! We'll introduce ourselves later... But first, we need to get out of here."
