Max nodded at Torir when he left to address Ilya and Kadina, although when Max looked over at them he noticed Kadina still being a little hostile toward Faro. This bothered him slightly because he knew Faro was completely harmless. So he decided to defend his buddy, "Oh lighten up Kadina," vouched, walking over to stand next to her. "Faro is a good guy, don't judge him before you know him."(Max has your back Faro )

Kadina slapped her forehead and drug her hand down her face feeling a sort of obligation to share a few words of wisdom with Max, but wasn't sure how. She steered him away by the shoulder after excusing herself from the others. At least she could be a little polite.
She crouched down and spoke quietly for the others not to hear. "Max, you've seen a lot of horrible things in the world for such a young age, but there's almost nothing worse than being deceived by a friend or someone you trust." She felt like she was crushing a certain innocence about him and found it hard to go on and explain. "You have this great thing about you where you give everyone a chance, and I wish that I could too, but I've already seen the truth about people. I know from experience that they aren't always what they seem..." She nervously scratched at the back of her neck and looked away as she remembered Epiny. "Sometimes they surprise you..." She cleared her throat and looked back at him. "I'll try to be nice... but I'm not letting my guard down. If anything, it's for you. It's so you can keep being that awesome kid that gives everybody the chance they deserve and not have to worry." She half smiled at him but still felt horrible not knowing if or how he would receive this. For her, that little bit of wisdom had made an impact on her whole life... and death...

Just then, there was a sharp crack, like that of a whip being sounded. Outside the cave, there was a rasping skid of gravel as two hands grasped at the steep rocks blindly, bracelets and rings flashing and jangling as nimble fingers struggled to hang on. A loud string of curses followed, sounding feet away from the cave entrance.
"Why are there rocks? They're so stupid. I swear. You can't even eat them. If diamonds didn't come from them...wait. Maybe if I--"
There was a loud buzz and cackle and all at once, Iona Solas burst into the cave with a crash, becoming a rolling pile of Gerudo, limbs and jewelry. Slamming into the opposite wall, she got up and fixed her hair, dusting herself off. The short black haired Gerudo examined the rock and scratched at it. "Pfft. Limestone. Worthless." Only then did she turn to look at what else was in the cave, a look of happy indifference on her face, one that many in the Fortress tried scarring for its beauty.
The same beautiful face became a long, nearly cartoon-like frown. Looking past the strange lot standing around, her large cat like eyes focused on the dragons. "Ew.Thought something smelt strange." The treasure hunter gazed disapprovingly at the dragons and instinctively gathered electricity around her, her hand resting on her chainblade. She smiled at the group of people, some she recognized but was too lazy to say hi to. She never actually said bye to them, so why should she re-greet them?
"Wrong room. Sorry about that." Iona spun on her heel and ran back to the entrance, a crackling mass of blue electricity, and readied herself to leave. The last time she got caught up with these people...well, she thought, pausing, she didn't quite remember how it went. But the Eldrin was there so there were plenty of reason to leave. She didn't quite appreciate overgrown lizards ever since she encountered one with the worst attitude. She didn't like attitude. She paused again. Where was she going again?

(This is what I listened to as I wrote this, not sure how well it fits but it seemed right)
Max absorbed Kadina's words rather easily. For his age he had experienced more than his fair share of evil, but betrayal, however, was not one of them. By the way Kadina was conveying her message Max deduced that she had in fact been betrayed by someone close to her; he could see it in her eyes as she spoke. He wondered what had happened between her and whoever had deceived her. It was the entire reason she was having this conversation with him.
Max had to take a moment to digest what had been said to him. He understood it just fine, but didn't know how to respond. He needed a moment to think. All Kadina was trying to do was give him some grownup advice, but Max loathed being treated like a kid and that's exactly what he felt like she was doing. That wasn't all that bothered him either. Kadina talked about people not being as they seem just because of one incident that happened to her, at least that's what he assumed, but for her to be wary of everyone because of it did not sit well in his mind. Everyone, no matter who they are, are good until proven otherwise. Max felt like he needed to tell Kadina that she couldn't not trust Faro because of the past, that Faro deserved as much trust from her Max trusted Kadina. Even if Kadina didn't ever trust Faro, it did not excuse the way she was treating him. One particular part of her speech had really bothered him..but I've already seen the truth about people. How could she say that? She couldn't just throw everyone in the same category; everyone deserved their own chance and Max would never understand why she couldn't just accept that. But maybe that's what he needed to understand most, Kadina wasn't the same as him, and she never would be.
As Max wrapped his little mind around what his friend had said he finally thought of a response. And when he began to speak he adorned a more serious look. "I understand what you are trying to say Kadina..its no mystery that there are bad people in the world, but to treat someone differently because there is a chance that they might be one of those bad guys..." Max shook his head, "I can't do it..I won't. Faro deserves as much a chance as at your trust as I do. Now I know you don't see things that way and that's fine..I didn't experience what you did..but treating Faro the way you are because you don't trust him yet is unacceptable. You don't have to trust him, but don't be mean to him."
When Max finished he reapplied his smile and gave Kadina a hug, "You're like my big sister Kadina. I know you just want to look out for me. Thank you for that." He squeezed her a little tighter before he let go, all the while grinning without a care in the world.

Kadina couldn't quell a smile from passing her lips when Max began to speak. He was so wise for his young age. There was still so much she didn't know or understand, yet he seemed to have her beat at 9 years-old.
She knew what he said was true, but she couldn't resist how she felt. Perhaps she had let the past scar her, and it would take time, yet it still felt practical to keep her guard up. She had already agreed to be kinder to Faro, but just like it would take time to heal from the past, it would take time for him to earn her complete trust. However, she would give him the chance to do that.
Max suddenly hugged her around the neck and spoke the sweetest words that had been directed to her since her days with Tagor. Max's affection, much like the day they met, nearly made her sob, but she was so stunned by the warmth of it all that the tears seemed to melt inside and shower her in joy. She hugged back and felt his squeeze before he released and grinned. Would that ever fade, that twinkle in his eye? How long until his knowledge and experiences would age him and replace that innocence and bewilderment? In many cases, it hadn't yet done so for Kadina, but as she stared at him smiling, she realized it was beginning to. Otherwise, this talk would have never happened. Her gut twisted and she felt sick at the realization.
Max was half her age, yet they could still play and understand each other on the same level. Sure, this probably meant Kadina was a little immature for her age, but she never seemed to mind. She never had a care in the world until now, apparently. What am I doing? What am I saying? Kadina suddenly felt like she needed time to be alone and reflect on what Max had said. Perhaps she needed closure... Maybe it was time for her to track Luca instead of the other way around.
She collected herself and stood. “I guess I owe him an apology, huh?” Kadina said to Max as she looked over at Faro who was introducing himself to the others. She smiled back at the young boy and raced him to the others, still as playful as ever, even if some things were different now.
Kadina offered her hand out to Faro. “Maybe it would be best for our relationship if we introduce each other personally.” She offered a kind smile. “Name's Kadina. I'm sorry for threatening you...” It took a moment for her to lay down her pride and apologize, but after she had, she shook his hand. She wasn't expecting any of the crazy events that followed.
When their hands had touched, the charge in her body was suddenly reversed and shot up through her hand and arm instead of fizzling outward or shocking the contact like usual. Just as it had happened, there was a loud crack from outside the cave. Kadina swiftly withdrew her hand in discomfort and grasped her arm trying to cut off the surge. Agh! That wasn't what caused the loud crack, was it? Suddenly there was cursing from outside and before the charge in Kadina's arm had sizzled out, Iona came blasting through the entrance between her and Faro in a jumbled mass. Kadina stood there shocked... literally. She wanted to high five Iona for her entrance, but a.) she was scared to touch anything, b.) she was frozen in shock, and c.) She had had enough electricity as of lately. Iona was the last person she wanted to come in contact with... other than Luca.
Faro didn't seem to have felt what happened. Was it an attack? What was going on? She stared at him with a puzzled and analyzing look. This had never happened before, and it really wasn't helping his chances of earning her trust. Then again, she knew this electric surge was her own problem and it could have just been another strange malfunction. Still... something was different about him.

"Was that Iona?" Faro asked, completely oblivious to the fact that Kadina had been shocked. If he was responsible for the jolt, he was doing a damn good job of hiding it. He returned his attention back to Kadina as Iona tried to decide whether to leave or not. "Anyway, name's Faro, and I think that covers everyone."
Let me talk.[/i] Malevolence stated impatiently.

Just as Kadina and Faro were shaking hands, a woman...appeared out of thin air and tumbled into the cave. Torir's heart stopped for a moment, as her sudden appearance shocked him. She got up and ran back to the entrance like she was going to leave.
"Was that Iona?" Faro asked.
So at least Faro knows who this girl is. I might as well introduce myself to her too. He thought to himself.
"Wait." Torir shouted to Iona. "You weren't going to leave without saying anything, were you?"

The Gerudo spun back around, her long black hair slapping her face, and couldn't identify who spoke. Her eyes instantly lost their sparkle and wariness overcame her. She hated big crowds. She didn't need to prove anything to them, but she nonetheless felt threatened. She pursed her lips.
"...Maybe I was,"Iona rather childishly said in response to whoever had spoken, her eyes skittering mistrustfully at the dragons. She repressed the urge to hiss at them. Feeling cornered, Iona shrank back, then instinctively crated a hair-rising barrier of electricity around her. Amber eyes narrowing at them, she briefly wondered if these people were the ones invading the desert. Some of them had hoods and looked to be of their lot.
Suddenly, she froze up and shivered. Her small nose started to twitch. Iona glared at Faro. "What's that following you?" she asked sharply. She sniffed several times, then gave a sneeze, a brief hissing sound like the way dogs and cats sneeze. She took another breath in and sneezed again, electricity bursting and flaring up like an explosion as she was thrown back by the force of the sneeze, nearly falling out.
Iona recovered, but then glared back at the crowd. She hesitated, then gave in. She gave the dragons a low hiss.

"There's nothing behind me." Faro said, turning around to check anyway. "Are you alright, Iona?" Faro asked. He had only met Iona once, in the mountains of Snowhead. He'd fallen unconscious just outside the tree stump she was sleeping in. He vaguely recalled something about penguins.

Something about being smelled and being questioned and not having Torir around made Ilya feel dizzy. It was as if he had sensed her uneasiness when she immediately appeared beside her. As Torir began to step in she waved her hands dramatically in front of him, pleading him not to give away her abnormality. She didn't need anyone else knowing she was not normal. She didn't want pity.
"...you're going to be waiting for a while." Thankfully, his answer was vague. She pulled her hands behind her back and looked around the cave as if to neglect the fact that she had just been acting frantically. Luckily, the man named Eldrin seemed too preoccupied with his attempts to act smug towards the bandit girl to be looking Ilya's way.
Ilya walked towards Kingsley and sat down and leaned against the dragons side where she had been sleeping earlier. The others continued to talk amongst themselves and she decided to watch from afar, where it was quieter. Ilya had enough social interaction for one day.
As she watched the others, she almost drifted back to sleep when she heard a sharp crack. Kingsley, her dragon, stood up abruptly as he was alarmed by the noise, and cast his wing around Ilya as if to protect her from something. The noises in the cave were hardly audible beneath the wing of the beast. She could hear... a woman's voice maybe? But it wasn't Kadina's... This one sounded more irritated, perhaps? Kingsley growled heavily.
Ilya pushed the wing upward to see who the mysterious voice belonged to. "Ew. Thought something smelt strange." The woman was nothing like she had imagined. Her gaze fell upon Kingsley as she said this, which made Ilya clench her fists in anger. Such conceit. But before she knew it, the strange girl already had her back turned and was walking towards the entrance of the cave. Just as Ilya was getting ready to pursue her, reaching for her flute to instruct her dragon, Torir - of course, it always had to be Torir - had interrupted Ilya as she was about to indulge in her temper.
"Wait." Torir shouted to Iona. "You weren't going to leave without saying anything, were you?"
Suddenly she wasn't sure who she hated more - This mouthy girl with the snarky attitude or her partner, who addressed this stranger with such friendliness. She closed her eyes, indescribably irritated, and for once felt thankful of her loss of words... for Torir's sake.
"...Maybe I was." Iona said in response.
Ilya despised the irreverence in her voice. Her beauty, her cockiness, the way her eyes harnessed a particular indifference... She felt insulted by her very presence. Faro muttered something, but Ilya wasn't listening. She was too busy trying to regain composure, if at all that was possible. And as she stared down the girl, she began to wonder what she had possibly planned to do against the black-haired diva. Ilya knew nothing about this girl. Even with the help of Kingsley, what could she possible do? Stare her down to death? If that were possible, it would have worked by now. And similar to her encounter with Kadina, she backed off and looked down. Torn between humiliation and anger, Ilya released the tension in her fists and stayed out of the commotion as she had always done in every dangerous situation. Humiliation had won, and along came its brother, cowardice.

Kadina watched as Iona sneezed electricity. Her face screwed up in an expression that revealed a shared discomfort... She hoped she wouldn't have to experience anything like that with her weird electric charge. It looked quiet uncomfortable.
Speaking of looking uncomfortable, Kadina noticed Ilya closing herself off from the others. She seemed rather insulted by Iona's presence. Now Kadina knew how Max felt when Kadina had written one of his friends off so quickly. Maybe Ilya and Kadina could get over their harsh judgement together.
"I think the last thing you wanna do is hiss at a fire breathing dragon... it might hiss back," Kadina advised Iona before approaching Ilya. She was rather excited to be so close to the dragon. She stepped cautiously towards the girl not wanting to frighten the large winged creature unable to take her eyes off it.
"Ya know... I wasn't too fond of that guy over there, but you'd be surprised how many barriers can been broken with a handshake." Mentioning her contact with Faro reminded her of the buzzing energy in her arm that was finally going down. She rubbed it gently to assist the process.
"I know you seem unsure of her now, but I think if you give Iona a chance, you'll find her rather entertaining." She smiled at Ilya before looking back at Iona just waiting for her next crazy stunt.

The black haired Gerudo glared back at the dragon. "Oh, I'm counting on it," Iona said, more than happy to take it on. The dodongos in Death Mountain were quick to learn to to run at a minor implication of her scent. Did this creature mean her harm? If it did, she was more than ready...
And immediately picked up on what was apparently the owner's sharp, vile vibe against her. She could almost physically feel it. The girl she saw hiding under the giant creature's wing was her, Iona knew, when she was back in the Fortress. Day in and day out, beatings, curses, glares...the entire Gerudo population hated her for being so different but the best out of all of them. And the lack of kindness almost, almost, broke Iona. For years she was timid and nearly silent, hating each and every person...
"I'm too grown for this," she muttered inaudibly under her breath. Iona had only fought back harder, brushed off their glares, and found a sort of emotional enlightenment where she learned that she...honestly didn't have any fucks to give. It's not as sad as it sounds. Not caring whether or not the girl was going to hold a grudge, she turned away in indifference and seemed to think.
Finding the one with the bow more sociable, Iona spoke her mind. "These creatures...do they desire to bite my head off?" she asked, almost shyly. Then she frowned, then bared her white perfect teeth, the only deformity being that her canines were rather long and sharp, clearly sharpened. "Because I bite back. I swear I do," the short Gerudo snarled. Then she smiled, realizing that Faro was there for the first time and punched his arm, not realizing the punch actually held a lot of force. "I remember you! You've met Mr. Penguin!" she crowed in delight, then brought her attention back on Torir. "These creatures," she ventured again. "Do they have the capacity to...cuddle?" she asked, her pupils actually enlarging like a cat's would.
One impulse, she scooped a large stone from the ground and bit it, the rock coming away easily as though she bit an apple, her teeth working the rock like it was a liquid. They didn't call her Iron Jaws or Steel Teeth for no reason.

Torir looked at the others. Ilya and Kadina were no longer with the group. He turned around to see Kadina talking to Ilya. He heard Kadina say something like "I know you seem unsure of her..." So Ilya was getting uncomfortable with the new people. Torir's suspicions were correct. Ilya was also probably mad that he was making friends with new people. He felt like he was in a position to make a few new friends or to keep his best friend. He wished he could have both but it didn't seem like that would work out. But who knows, maybe she would become friends with some of these people too. I think she just needs some time for this all to sink in; let things settle down. He was about to walk over to her and comfort her when he heard someone talking.
"These creatures... Torir turned back around to see Iona talking to him. "Do they desire to bite my head off?" He was a about to tell her that they don't care if they do or not, but will if necessary, but before he could tell her this she was striking up a conversation with Faro. Well if you decide to piss them off, you'll find out He thought to himself.
"These creatures, Do they have the capacity to...cuddle?" She then asked.
"Well yeah, as long as you treat them right. If you treat either of them poorly, they will think of how to kill you. So I suggest you stay on their good si-" Torir stopped in mid-sentence. Iona had picked up a rock and bit into it as if it were nothing. "Oh God..." He said to himself. He stood there for a few seconds feeling a little horrified. He collected himself quickly. This is one girl I don't want on my bad side he though.

Ilya looked at Kadina endearingly as she attempted to comfort her. Somehow it had worked. She looked back to the dark-haired gerudo as she could sense a pain in her eyes. She felt terrible for getting so worked up over the comment on her dragon. She wondered how Torir managed to be friends with her when she was always so impulsive. Ilya didn't feel like she was handling everyone around her very well at all. But she wasn't sure what to do. She had never been around so many strangers and they were all so very different. Some were familiar with another, some weren't. And they seemed to know a lot more about this whole "friend" stuff than Ilya. The social discomfort was more than she could handle. Before she knew it, she was grabbing onto the bottom of Kadina's shirt tightly as she had always done with Torir when she wanted to say something to him.
Torir. What was he doing now? She looked to see him with the one she had upset. So easily, he made friends with everyone. This only irritated her more. She winced at the thought of her undeniable social ineptitude.
Kingsley looked at Ilya and walked over to the two girls. Her thoughts interrupted, she watched as he began to sniff Kadina. She had been approved. The notion made Ilya smile, and she let go of the grasp on her shirt, and gave an apologetic shrug for doing something so strange.

Eldrin had been watching silently as the others discovered and resolved many emotional issues. Kadina and Max had discussed something in whispers, and then the bandit decided to play nice. Eldrin couldn't help but grin and ruffle Max's hair (though he didn't say why, and this probably greatly confused the boy). He was proud of the young assassin for helping their friend overcome her trust issues. Of course, he completely understood her fear of betrayal. Epiny had betrayed him too. The fact was, back then he had trusted everybody. Hell, he would have trusted Ganon if he had been given any little reason too. Epiny had met absolutely no resistance from him. He had walked right into her trap, just because she had told him to... And it had cost him his powers. In that moment, he had felt something burning within him. He had wanted to hurt her. Kill her.
And then she died. Sure, it was Kadina that had killed her, and even that was unintentional. But still, he had gotten what he wanted, more or less. In that moment, watching the light fade from her eyes, he had seen something that hurt him more than her betrayal. Regret. She had died doing something that she didn't even want to do.
He had moved on, put it all in the past. He never could trust as easily as before, but he was still willing to give people a chance. No one deserved to be alone, no matter what choices they made. Faro was a follower of Ganondorf, but there was something else to him. He was a good person, and Eldrin had every intention to see it brought out of him.
The next issue to be brought up was one of an odder nature... Specifically, an Ionic nature. Ilya seemed to dislike Iona, and not without reason. Iona was a bit overwhelming. She was prickly and unfriendly, and yet, playful and childlike. Affectionate to those she decided to like, and lethal to those she decided not to. But, as if passing on Max's peacemaking, Kadina quickly fixed this situation.
"Ya know, you don't have to try so hard. We like you. You and Torir are one of us now, whether you like it or not." Eldrin said, leaning on Ilya's shoulder and watching Iona chew her rock.
Did the mountain just growl at us?
